SJF was founded in 1970 by electrician Don Iddon. What began as a small business, with just one or two engineers on the road, soon developed into an established and trusted name within the industry.

Through Don’s hard work and dedication, SJF secured a place on the Lancashire County Council framework—a contract we are incredibly proud to have retained continuously for over 50 years. His commitment to quality, reliability and excellent service laid the foundations for the company SJF is today.

In 2018, the company was acquired by Kevin Spink and his wife, Joanne. Kev, an experienced electrician from Darwen, now leads the business alongside Jo, who serves as Company Secretary.

Together, they remain committed to upholding the strong foundations and core values on which SJF was built, while driving the company forward through innovation, modern working practices and continued compliance with evolving industry standards and regulations. Over the following years, their dedication helped SJF grow into the well-known and trusted company it is today.

In 2023, we took an important step towards becoming a more environmentally friendly business by purchasing our first fully electric fleet vehicle. This marked the beginning of our journey towards reducing our carbon footprint and building a greener, more sustainable fleet.

Today, SJF continues to grow and expand. We remain an approved contractor on the Lancashire County Council framework, while also securing places on other frameworks, including Bolton Council.

We work with a wide range of clients who continue to recommend us for our high-quality workmanship, reliability and friendly customer service. We are also working towards becoming a net-zero business, with all but one vehicle in our company fleet now either hybrid or fully electric.

By 2030, we aim to have purchased all fully electric vans, marking another important step towards becoming a more environmentally responsible business. As the company continues to grow and expand its fleet, our goal is for 100% of all newly purchased vans to be electric.

We also hope to secure preferred-contractor status on additional frameworks and welcome even more valued customers. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to seeing what the future holds for SJF.
